Ignis was up early as per his custom, and while it had been so damn tempting to just stay in bed together, there was someone else that needed his attention, well their attention really. So instead of waking up his mate, the advisor decided that he would bring him breakfast in bed afterwards.
However, the first order of business was making breakfast for a certain pink haired doll of a daughter and letting her know she didn't need to worry anymore, that things were fixed. And it took strict mental discipline to not keep staring at the ring of gold now permanently back on his left hand.
So once breakfast was started, green eyes detected a slightly disheveled beloved pink head of hair coming towards the kitchen. And Ignis could only smile.
Madoka is very much used to seeing Ignis already at it when she enters the kitchen - despite the fact that Madoka also gets up kind of early. At least it means there's not as many people around when it's still early (the dining carriage can get pretty chaotic with the recent numbers of people on the train, after all) and she doesn't have to look too proper just yet.
Even though she's still sleepily smoothing out her hair with her hands as she enters the kitchen, letting out a slight yawn. Maybe she'd be a tad surprised at him smiling, considering how things have been lately, but it's not quite registering in Madoka's sleepy mind yet.
"Good morning darling." Ignis smiled. Her hair was adorable as it was with being slightly messed up. He caught that yawn too and he set a glass of juice down for her before she even sat. "Yes, breakfast is nearly ready. How did you sleep?"
Of course with him having been up already he had eggs and he'd found bacon in the refrigerator so that was cooked. He'd also made a fresh pan of honey cakes and had the cream cheese icing he'd whipped up with Buttercup. Eggs were present too along with bread for toast. So when Madoka did sit, he gave her a kiss on top of the pink crown of hair and got himself a fresh cup of coffee.
Prompto said 'Ignis, all business' on the battlefield but that also applied to his kitchen too.
"Hmm-mm, I slept fine." She reaches out towards the glass, drinking a little and letting out a deep breath afterwards.. Madoka is slowly starting to look a little bit more awake as she takes in the scent of breakfast.
"Papa, you must've slept well too. You seem in a good mood this morning."
"That's good to hear." the advisor replied. Within minutes he had breakfast down for the both of them and then sat down to join her after getting more coffee. Of course Ignis noticed she looks a bit more awake and smiled.
"I did sleep rather well." Better than he had in days actually and he pondered how to put this gently.
"Your Dad and I talked last night."
That was what he kids were calling it these days he hoped. But he wouldn't lead with any information, it was up to Madoka to ask questions.
The moment he says he slept well, Madoka is smiling at him. Well, the reason as to why he's feeling better doesn't really matter, right? What's important is that he's looking happy today at all. She's determined to somehow make it last as she puts the first bite of breakfast into her mouth..
.. only to near-choke on it in surprise when she hears what else Ignis has to say. She quickly tries to swallow so she isn't being impolite and speaking with her mouth full though..!
"Y.. You and dad did?" Probably in a good way if Ignis looks so happy this morning, right? Then again, she doesn't want to assume.. "What did you talk about..?"
It's not like she can't figure, but she wants to make sure to leave the question as open as possible so Ignis can choose what he wants to share.
When she almost choked, Ignis was alarmed and reached over. But then she seemed okay he slowly sat back down.
No choking around Papa there daughter dear, it's totally not allowed.
"Yes we did talk." he replied with a gentle smile in his green eyes. "And we've decided to get back together for good this time." Because Ignis was determined to make this work no matter what he had to do.
This time surprise appears on her face. But compared to the shock of a moment ago, this is slightly less intense - and it has something else in it. Madoka's eyes are nearly twinkling with excitement, like a kid who was just told it's getting a present. (Her dads being together again is totally like a present to her, okay.)
"I'm so glad.. I was really worried about both of you!" Both of them had seemed to have taken the breakup really badly in their own ways, after all. And who could blame them? So while Madoka is happy at the idea of being able to spend time with both of her dads together again, she's even happier at the thought her dad and papa no longer have to deal with all that hurt.
Madoka's happy expression was adorable and he couldn't understand why her eyes seemed to light up. It was the type of thing that he'd heard about kids and the way they looked at their christmas gifts.
"Well it's thanks to your Uncle Gladio really..he helped us out quite a bit." Ignis was not getting into what took place and his lips remained sealed of course. He himself was relieved and it was a very heavy weight that had tumbled off of his shoulders. There was a small smile as he recalled that even Tony looked nervous the night he went into go see him. And the one thing the advisor tried to get across to the older man was how very much he'd been missed.
Madoka's kindness never failed to humble him however and he smiled, reaching out his ringed hand to touch hers. "You've no need to worry anymore darling, it's all fixed now."
The girl lets out a slight breath of relief by the time Ignis touches her hand. Honestly, no matter how positive she tried to be for her dads during this time, she was kind of worried that things would never go back to normal.. And while of course Madoka would accept that if she had to, it wasn't exactly a fun thing. So it feels like both such a surprise and such a relief that things ended up this way regardless.
"I'm not surprised he helped.. He really says so many smart things." It's not like he hasn't listened to her before when she spoke of difficult topics, after all. So of course he'd be able to do the same thing for her dads. She'll have to make sure to thank Gladio later for doing what she couldn't.
"I'm sorry though. I really didn't want to burden you two with my worries when you were already feeling bad.. B-But it was so hard to keep myself from worrying."
Only Madoka would apologize for feeling bad over a bad situation..
There was a small smile on Ignis' face as his daughter spoke highly of Gladio. In the advisor's opinion the man needed someone to look up to him and what better person than Madoka. He was more than sure the two of them had a rollicking good time together. "That he most certainly does darling."
The blondish head cocked to the side at hearing about her feeling bad that she didn't come talk to him. There was a small worried smile as he gently squeezed her hand. "You still could've come talk to me, that's what I'm here for, whatever the topic may be."
A thought occurred. "Did you still want to talk about it now?" Ignis was simply trying to let her know that he was here for her no matter what.
"No, it's alright now. I mean.. What else would I have to worry about with two great dads who are now back together and happy?" It's not her lying or trying to cover up anything this time. Most of her worries had been about them, after all, and a little bit about herself and how awkward things might be with both of them being her father seperately.. But of course she doesn't have to worry about any of that anymore now. Everything is okay again.
Madoka lets out a slight breath. Well, if she wants to be 100% honest.. she did promise to share all of her worries with her papa a long time ago, right? So even though it's relatively minor, she still slowly speaks up about it after eating another bite of her breakfast.
"I guess maybe I feel a tiny bit guilty that I couldn't help you solve it..?" Especially since apparently they did need help from a third party to make things alright again. "But I guess I'm still a little too young for it, huh.."
The advisor sort of smiled and was happy. "We are..still planning on marrying as well." He was pretty sure that was implied at being back together but just in case there was some sort of misunderstanding, he was here to clear that up.
Ignis couldn't tell her that he'd been working on his wedding attire anyway. It gave him something to focus on instead of how upset he was. The outfit was meant to be silver but it turned out to be more gray in colour, but it was still sharp and he truly hoped to wear it one day. And when his green eyes turned to his daughter, he pictured her in the pinkest and grandest dress that could be made. So he couldn't help but smile for a moment regarding it.
But he listened as Madoka spoke and shook his head. "Darling, you are the glue that binds us together. So you didn't need to help solve anything, you just had to be there and you were. That was more than enough."
At least she looks very much relieved when he says that. If they're even planning on that much, then that really must mean things are all alright again. There's no way they'd go as far as even actually marrying otherwise. Not to mention Ignis looks so much happier - that's the real relief here. She'll have to make sure to check up on her dad at some point today too.
So Madoka smiles as she continues taking a few small bites of her breakfast. But it's a good thing she's properly swallowed a bite before Ignis adds that last part - otherwise she might have near-choked on it all over again. It makes her instantly look surprised, and perhaps even a tad flustered.
"I-- I am?" Sure, on some level Madoka knows that sort of thing is logical since she is their daughter. But it's still harder for Madoka's mind to fully process that fact when she has a hard time thinking of herself as special in any way. Certainly not special enough to be spoken about that way, that's for sure. "I.. I didn't think I was doing that much at all though! But.. um.. I'm glad to mean that much to you..."
He'd just taken a sip of coffee when his green eyes looked over the rim of it at his daughter. Why was she surprised? And what was with..and then she explained. Ignis wondered if he'd gone too far somehow but he'd only been truthful. Was she going overboard with the parenting thing? Setting his coffee cup down, the advisor gazed at Madoka.
"Your presence was all that was required." The blondish head shook. "I'm sure your Dad would more than concur with me. You weren't the cause of our argument." Ignis had taken all the blame for the fight though Tony wouldn't let him.
Right now though there was a gentle smile as he reached for her hand again. "You mean that much to both of us."
The girl ducks her head slightly with a shy smile at those words. Her papa - and her dad too, for that matter - is just entirely too sweet to her. Even if those words may just be the simple truth, they're still so sweet, enough so to make Madoka's heart feel all warm.
For a moment she just sits there quietly, letting Ignis hold her hand, but then she slowly stands up from the table. Not to walk away though (her breakfast isn't even entirely finished yet!), but just to walk around the table and instead sit down on the other side right next to Ignis, throwing her arms around him in a hug.
"Thank you, papa.." Madoka leans against him, closing her eyes. "You two mean a lot to me too.. That's why I want you to be happy. After all, I'm sure I wouldn't be nearly as happy without you here.."
Ignis let go of Madoka's hand as she got up. Curiously his green eyes followed her movements as she came around the table and then he got his hug. "You're welcome darling." Ignis replied, closing his eyes after wrapping his arms around his daughter. Her tiny frame was against his and he had moved to get the full hug.
"We're certainly happy Madoka, don't you worry." the advisor smiled. But then the blondish head went down at hearing her last statement. He was just so very grateful that this wonderful girl had agreed to become his daughter with Tony. Ignis wasn't sure what to say, so all he could do was hug her a little tighter and say a two words successfully without crying.
She instinctively almost says he has nothing to thank her for, but Madoka is at least trying to get a tiny bit better at sometimes just accepting thanks when they come her way. It's easier than accepting compliments, at least.
So she just smiles, pulling her head back just enough to be able to look at him. "You're welcome, papa."
There's a moment of hesitation - even visible on her face - that follows it. Like she's not sure whether to add something else or not. She hopes it's not too rude, but after a moment Madoka decides to go for it.
"And.. um, I.. felt really glad that I could comfort you a little during the mission." Don't think she didn't notice you crying when you hugged her back there, Ignis! There's no way she could have missed that. At least she's considerate enough to not point it out directly, but it's very much implied in her words anyway. "Sometimes I'm a little worried that you might not have many people to show it to when you feel that way.. S-So.. um, even if it's tough, remember you can always show it to me, papa. I want to comfort you, just like how you always comfort me."
He smiled at her and was about to place his forehead to hers as he and Tony did. But instead she seemed like there was more she wanted to say so Ignis just patiently waited to see what would happen. Ignis listened as Madoka said that she was happy she could comfort him and it was very touching.
"I appreciate your gesture." the advisor said, pulling her a little closer so that he could now put their foreheads together. "And it's..well..you could simply say the fault is mine." This was as honest as he could be, to let his daughter know that it wasn't that he didn't have people to comfort him. It was and always had been a matter of him not reaching out, not really knowing how after a life of putting someone else first.
But there was absolutely no way that he would ever blame Noct. The fault lay exclusively within himself.
"So thank you darling, I'll remember that." Ignis then closed his eyes in case he would cry.
Just from saying he'll remember it. Even if he can't always manage to talk about things, that's still fine.. Madoka knows very well how difficult it can be, after all. It's why she wouldn't blame anyone else for it - sometimes it's just rooted in your personality, and the two of them are very alike in that regard, wanting to shove their own problems out of the way for the sake of other people's trouble.
So they can just try together. The girl smiles, happy for the close contact with their foreheads touching like this. Things feel nice this way. They feel right. So she lingers there for a moment.
But even when she pulls back, she doesn't move from where she's now sitting next to Ignis. Instead she reaches out across the table, dragging her own plate closer so she can sit next to him while eating. And sitting next to him she does - Madoka is practically scooted up all the way up to Ignis, leaning against him as she eats another bite of breakfast.
Ignis opened his eyes when she moved away and shifted at seeing her grab her plate from across the table. He smiled and was surprised to see Madoka sidling up to lean against him as it were and all he could do was place and arm around her for a moment to give her a side hug. She was absolutely precious and she was such a great source of comfort to him whether she knew that or not.
"Glad you approve." the advisor said, taking a sip of coffee. Really things didn't get much better than a kid who obviously adored you (even if there was a bit of internal flailing regarding it) and food. Things were moving in the right direction and that was what was important. "Next time we'll do breakfast together, how does that sound?"
Madoka definitely agrees on the sentiment that it doesn't get much better than this. The only thing that could make this better at the moment is their dad joining them for breakfast too, especially now it's possible for the three of them to hang out like that together again. It really makes things feel close to how they were back home.
So of course there's only one answer to what he's asking. "Yes, please!" Madoka already seems content with just the idea, judging by the smile on her face. "I'll wake up extra early to help you make it. I can do that! And, um.. I'll properly do my hair too then.."
She laughs a little, stroking her still slightly messy hair with a hand.
Ignis had to laugh at Madoka being self conscious about her hair. He only nodded in agreement though honestly he didn't care if she had messy hair or not in the morning. After all there was someone else that he knew that didn't 'do' mornings though he'd harped enough on the king about that. And all it took was Gladio and a run on the beach in the morning to get Noct's tail semi whipped into shape.
"Since we have cookbooks, perhaps we can spend a few days coming up with breakfasts for the week." He loved spending time with her and getting feedback and different ideas was always a fun thing, at least for him.
Okay, so Madoka can have more meaningful contributions than just that, but this is her favourite. She absolutely loves making food look cute. It's not like she could make food taste better than Ignis could, so at least she can help by doing that, right?
"Let's surprise dad with it." She smiles just a little wider than she usually might have as she says it. It feels extra nice saying it in this moment, after all. She didn't think she'd be able to say that kind of thing again, and yet here she is.
He wasn't sure there were enough cookie cutters for all the cute shapes that Madoka loved to do. However, if cute shapes were what she desired, he'd help to the very best of his ability, cookie cutters or not.
Hearing her wanting to surprise Tony though made Ignis smile. "Yes let's surprise your Dad with it. And speaking of, we could do such a thing for his birthday coming up as well." It was already on his to do list, but if they were to start discussing such a thing now well he was all for it honestly.
A day or two after Tony & Ignis' log
