Back home whenever he loved something he'd shower them with gifts. It was easy to do when you were worth multiple billions. Here it was harder to give gifts. He either had to make it from flour and eggs or scraps of metal he found laying around. The last option, which was the one he was known for doing the most was buying them with his team points. Of course he couldn't just give this gift straight from train store to child, he had to add some kind of personalized touch. So with Ignis' help and a spare pillow case, the mascot bear now had a small white skirt to go along with her red hoodie.
Now to find Madoka. He didn't have her routine memorized like he did Peter's and Ignis' but there was only so many place on the train to be, so before long, he found his daughter and as soon as he spotted her, he smiled. In his hand was a pillowcase with obviously something stuffed inside.
Tony will find Madoka in a rare moment of not trying to do way more chores than she's actually assigned to do. Instead the girl has made herself comfortable in a corner of the dining car, despite it not being anywhere near dinnertime yet. Maybe she just picked the place since it's kind of quiet at the moment, judging by the fact that it seems like she's reading the book about meditating that Raven had let her borrow.
The quiet also makes it really obvious to hear though when someone is entering the car, so when Madoka hears that sound she carefully peeks out over the edge of the book.. and said book is abandoned only a moment later when she notices who entered. Madoka hops off the bench immediately, running over to him to near-tackle him with a hug.
"Dad..! Hi!"
Did he come here looking for her? It's not like Madoka can be sure, but the thought itself makes her smile right up at Tony as she pulls away a moment later. Her eye falls on the pillowcase.
Ignis had spoken to Madoka about training with a bow. It wasn't his thing but if she saw herself in a dream with one then he would do everything in his power to obtain one. Ash was the only one he knew that wielded bows, Sarai might be a possibility as well but that was an option he'd have to check on.
Moving towards the training room he'd invited Tony to accompany or join him here, but so far he was here by himself. Both would be along shortly and he had to teach her first aid. He couldn't pass the king's magic onto her either, but he could help her make the potions and Ignis might be able to make them more effective and give them to her.
It indeed doesn't take too long for Madoka to show up. She's not the type to want to keep anyone waiting for too long, after all. Going to the training room makes her a little nervous since it's not like she spends a whole lot of time there - certainly not as much as a lot of other people on the train, anyway - but it's only a little bit. There's not much to be nervous about when you consider her current company, after all.
Tony had no idea why Ignis had dubbed the gym the 'training room' but whatever. Papa could get away with a lot of things being as cute as he was. He was already smirking at that idea as he came into the room.
Seeing Madoka, he ruffled her hair as he passed. "Hey Kitten." Then he continued to Ignis and caught his chin with his thumb and planted a brief kiss to his lips. "Hey Tiger." Letting go, he added, "So your in charge of this, let me know what I can do to help."
He felt bad he hadn't come up to the dining car with something for her to eat or drink. Still, anything remotely negative in his thoughts evaporated when she looked at him like the sun. The way she came running to hug him made him feel like Zeus and Jupiter combined. He laughed at her exuberance and pressed a kiss to the top of her head and hugged her back.
"Hey, sweetie. Yes, I was looking for my favorite girl and I think I found her. What are you doing?" He asked, glancing over at that meditation book. Really? Madoka and meditation? Somehow those two things just didn't mix in his mind. It was like trying to combine a Taize service with Barney the dinosaur and fireworks. Mady was so full of life and bubbly.
She definitely can't help but blush a little when he says that thing about his favorite girl, although it seems to be a happy kind of blush. A moment later she's already picking the book back up to show it off to him when she notices Tony looking at it.
"I was reading." The cover says Meditation for Beginners. "I got this from Raven.. Or, um, I'm borrowing it from her. She said it could be helpful, so I'm trying really hard to learn!"
Even though it's definitely true that Madoka and meditation don't exactly go hand in hand, like he's thinking..
"You know she has those powers where she can feel what other people are feeling, right? And we share a room, so I really want to try and freak out a bit less, so she won't have to feel that either." (Sure, Raven's angle had been more about helping Madoka for Madoka's own sake, but of course Madoka is going to turn it around into this..)
He knew Madoka was a whole lot older than Morgan, but when the young girl when and got her book to show him it reminded him of when his daughter- other daughter- used to do that. She'd take every last book off the shelf and enthusiastically bury him alive in a pile of books. This time Mady was only bringing him one, but it was a nice memory nonetheless.
"Ah, so you're trying to help Raven out. That's very kind of you." He smirks at how that had been phrased. Yes, he knows you Mady. This had been for your health and not for Raven's, but he'd go along with however she wanted to angle it. "Do you feel like you freak out a lot?" He asked. He took the book and turned it over in his hands, curious about it. He was more interested in hearing Mady tell him about it but that went without saying.
There's a slight pause after Tony asks that question. She doesn't want to make him worried about her, so Madoka's initial instinct is to somehow dodge the question or bend the answer a little, even if she can't outright lie. But on the other hand, she did make a promise that she'd try to talk about her problems a little more openly. And even though she made that promise with Ignis, she figures it's probably better if she tries to extent her attempts to her other dad as well. (Maybe she'll have a chance to force Tony into an it's-obligatory-to-talk-about-your-problems pinky promise as well one day.)
"Well, kind of.." So while she still sounds somewhat hesitant about answering, Madoka does it anyway. She looks up at him with a hint of bashfulness. "I think I worry a lot, mostly. And I'm not very good at keeping my cool the way a lot of other people here seem to be.. So I'd like to get better at that."
Tony hums a soft, sympathetic sound as she struggles to answer him. Feeling bad, he considers telling her she doesn't have to say anything. However, it seems also like maybe she needs to. He wasn't too sure which way to go, so he just listens and waits.
Her answer has him pulling her a little closer and pressing a kiss to her forehead. "You're awfully young to be expected to keep your cool." Although, he supposes since she's here she does need to learn. He thinks for a moment on how to respond to that. When he was coming up with anything good, he remembered his gift. "We'll think of something, okay? Right now, I have something for you but I need to explain the bag first. So when we first got here I wanted to give Buttercup a gift and since I didn't have any wrapping paper or like a gift bag, I put it in a sock. I thought it'd make it a little more fun for her to open even if.. you know, it was just a sock. So this is too big for one, so I used a pillow case instead. Why don't you go ahead and open it?"
He wasn't forgetting about her worrying and getting upset, but maybe it was something he should discuss with Ignis first. He didn't usually do that, but in this case he wasn't sure how to tackle that one.
He shouldn't have to worry too much about it right now, either way. Madoka doesn't seem annoyed - as if she could ever be annoyed! - or worried about him saying they'll think of something. She's already trying her best to work on it, so it'll probably be fine.. And if Tony is still thinking about it too, they can always talk about it at some other time.
Besides, the mention of everything after that is pretty distracting anyway. Madoka really didn't think that what he was holding was relevant to her, she thought he was just carrying it around for something else! So she looks at him with both surprise and curiosity as she takes it from him.
"It's for me..?" That's the heavy implication there, and yet the girl seems so surprised at the very idea. Like the thought of getting a gift from her own adoptive father is wild. Madoka is opening it though, and when she pulls out the bear, her eyes grow even wider in amazement. "W.. Wow! It's so cute..!"
Tony grins happily as the girl is pleased with the gift. In fact, it is sort of embarrassing how pitiful the bear is in comparison to her enthusiasm. "Well.. it's nothing, really. I just.. I thought you might like it." He hadn't gotten around to making that dress for her like he'd wanted so instead, have a bear with a skirt. That.. wow, he really sucked didn't he?
"We can maybe find some fabric if you want your bear to have a different outfit or something." Anything to make it a little closer to worthy-of-Mady level. It was still a far way away. Could he give her a kidney too?
"Really, can we?" Apparently she rather likes the idea of giving the bear different outfits, but that doesn't seem to be the main focus here. It surprises and excites her for a moment, but the bear most definitely still is the main attraction here, and Madoka is already hugging it tightly to her chest as she speaks. "It's already cute now though.. It has a little skirt! I really love it!"
And honestly, she has really missed sleeping with stuffed animals. But that's probably a little too embarrassing to admit at her age even if it's to her dad, right..
At the very least it seems very obvious the girl doesn't think there's anything pitiful about the gift. And although her attention seems to be completely drawn in by the bear for a few moments, it naturally shifts back to Tony again as she looks at him with all the adoration in the world in her eyes.
"Thank you for thinking of me.. I'm really happy." Madoka still holds onto the bear with one arm, but frees the other so she can hug her father again too. "I love you, dad."
Tony's smile just grew at her enthusiasm. "Of course. And just so you know, your papa made that skirt. I, unfortunately, can't sew." Can't/ won't, same thing. It was obnoxiously tedious, like gardening which he is also pawning off on other people.
And no, there's nothing too embarrassing to admit to her dad. Although if it's too cute, you might break his brain.
The gaze she levels on him took his breath away. There weren't words to express how much he'd missed that look. He hadn't been too aware of it's power at the time, but now that it's been a few months without Morgan looking at him like he was the greatest being in the universe, it was obvious. He might even be getting a touch misty eyed as he wraps his arms around her too and gives her a gentle-ish squeeze. "I love you too, Kitten. I've got some work to do, but I'm really glad you let me interrupt your reading for a while. I'll be in my office if you need me, okay?"
She nods, indulging in the hug for a few more moments before letting go and pulling away again so she can look back up at him.
"Okay." If he has work to do, then of course Madoka of all people isn't going to be standing in the way of that. (She has no idea that he's trying to retreat from all this overwhelming cute daughterly love anyway.) "Can I come read over there later? I promise to be really quiet so I won't disturb your work!"
And even quiet time spent with her dad is still amazing in Madoka's eyes.
He doesn't dare break the hug until she does. He'd made that promise to Morgan when she was born and he was going to honor her by honoring it with Mady.
As he was just stepping away, he hears her request and it almost makes him cry it's so touching. He leans down again and looks her right in the eyes. "Sweetie, you are always, always welcome anywhere I am, no matter what I'm doing. I'd love to have you come read with me whenever you want."
He looked over at the table now. "Would you like to come now?"
Apparently just those simple words are enough to completely fill Madoka's expression with excitement and happiness. Really, it isn't even as much that she thinks he'd find her bothersome as much as she's worried about interrupting something important he's doing.. But there's no way she's going to say no to that offer right after he tells her something that sweet.
So Madoka nods again, this time looking super excited, before moving to grab her book and the bear, carefully tucking them under one arm so she can hold her dad's hand with the other.
This girl and her cuteness were going to be the death of him, he was certain.
He followed her out of the room knowing he'd follow her anywhere and do anything she ever asked of him. It was mystifying such a tiny girl could have that much power, but he'd given up trying to understand that five years ago when the first girl to have that magic over him was placed in his arms for the first time.
He paused and when she got close again, he pulled her into a tight hug and kissed her cheek. Without another word as to why he abruptly did that, he cleared off her seat in his office and tried to go back to work.
"Well hello darling." Ignis smiled at Madoka. She always had that effect on him but he certainly wasn't going to complain. His daughter was important and she would be reminded of this often.
He had everything laid out for her in neat rows and was going to show her the easiest and quickest way to get this accomplished, especially if they were on a mission and one needed to be cobbled together quickly.
Ignis had to smile as Madoka was called kitten by Tony. Fitting, but he'd read tiger babies were called cubs. It was just as well at any rate. He melted into his knight's kiss and inwardly smiled at being called by his nickname.
Aww, papa and dad are the absolute cutest. Yes, Madoka really can't help but think that as she sees them kiss and smile at each other. It's just nice to see them so happy, okay. Especially when Ignis tends to be all serious.
She seems to have readily accepted her new nickname too, since there's no protest or even confusion, only a giggle followed by a: "Hi, dad!"
.. okay, so maybe Madoka is just excited in general to be with both her fathers and learning something useful. What's there not to like? She's practically bouncing on her feet here. "Yeah, papa! I promise I'll do my best!"
He'd already explained the logic he had behind kitten vs cub, but it might've been too silly to remember. He was pleased to be doing something with his two favorite people on the train, although he wasn't sure just what Ignis had in mind. If he started to ask, he was afraid he'd take over and this was 'Papa's' lesson that he was there to support.
"You'll do great, sweetheart." Seeing how excited she was made him laugh. It was so sweet and cute, it made him want to hug her again but he refrained. He took a step back to let Ignis start his lesson, curious to see what the man would do and how he could help.
There was a lot of sorrow in this approach, but Ignis had to keep himself together. There wasn't much he could do about one situation, however he could follow some 'advice' he got from a dream of a female black cat. He'd never seen the cat before nor did he know of it from back home. But when he inquired as to who She was, he mentally received a name he'd never heard of before.
But the advice was the only thing he could focus on and so he did. Finding Madoka coming out of the kitchen he turned around to face her. "Can you spare a moment?" It was so hard to look her in the face and make sure no tears rolled down but he just kept the advice of the cat in mind.
He was going to do this. The advisor had gotten knocked down before and gotten back up, he could do it again. And if he got his hands on a kitten, he was going to name the little one in that Lady's honour.
For a moment she seems surprised, but when she looks at him, the girl's expression slowly fades into something more closely resembling a small smile.
"Of course." To be fair, Madoka could always spare a moment for anyone. It's just how she is. But since this is Ignis, the answer comes even more easily. She'd drop anything in an instant if he asked. "Do you need something, papa..?"
He immediately knelt down to her side and kept the smile on. "It's not for me actually but it's a favour for your Uncle Noct. It's an item from home but I find that I don't have the points to procure it. If it's no trouble I would request you get it for him." Ignis of course was willing to pay her back however she wanted but he was trying to get this thing for the king.
The advisor really didn't want to get into details or anything regarding it but the key points were there. It was an item from home and it was for Noctis. If it was for himself, he would continue to wait and suffer. But Carbuncle was important for the king and easing of his nightmares.
Ignis had everything laid out just like he did every mission. On the table were all of the things needed and he was going to teach Madoka what order they went in to prepare them. "First we'll start with teaching you how to make healing potions."
He'd learned from personal experience that she was no fighter, but she loved to help other people. She wasn't one for weapons but she did want to learn bow. While he himself didn't use a bow, Noct used a crossbow and maybe Tony had some experience.
She'd wanted to learn and here they all were to do just that.
